The Tear Drop Tattoo – Not Just For Criminals Anymore

There was a point when the only people who had tear design tattoos were prison inmates. In fact, it began as a way to show how many people an inmate had killed. Each tear representing a new murder. This way it was easy to tell right from meeting someone how dangerous they were, or if they should be avoided. Nowadays, anyone and everyone has tear tattoos.
Lost are the days where only villains branded tears to their faces. Now you can see them on girls, teens and everyone in between.
These tattoos are often found in places other than the face as well. They may be incorporated into other tattoos, or may be stand alone tattoos. Some use them as a memorial type tattoo, where it represents the loss and sorrow of losing someone close to them. Others simply get them for the design and their own personal reasons.
No matter what your reason for getting a tear drop tattoo, here are some tips to make sure you get the right one for you.
Decide where you are getting it. As mentioned, the face still holds some symbolism of being a representation of how many people a person has killed, so it may not be the right place simply because of the stigma.
Choose the colouring that suits you. You don’t have to stick with a traditional blue tear. You can get it in any number of colours to truly represent you, and your reason for getting it. You may even choose not to get any colouring at all, and simply have the black outline of the tear. This can be just as stunning as any other design of it.
Decide if you are getting just one, or a stream of them. Perhaps you’re simply incorporating the tear drops into another tattoo. Knowing exactly what you want before going to the shop will make it a much quicker decision in the studio. Having an idea of what you want, or even a sketch when you go into the parlour can make it that much easier to create your perfect vision.
Tear drop tattoos don’t have to only represent how many murders a person has committed. With the right colours and design it can be the perfect tattoo for just about anyone. Just remember that there is still some stigma to getting them on the face, before you make that your choice spot.
